Description

This clinical faculty physician will staff the pilot UH Health Direct Primary Care site in Southwest Houston for the UH Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. The clinician will be responsible for all patient care activities, including chronic care management, acute care, and care coordination. They will practice comprehensive family medicine including the provision of pediatric care, women’s health, and some office-based procedures.

Direct primary care (DPC) is a relatively new method of delivering primary health care services in which patients pay a modest monthly membership fee for a broad, defined spectrum of services. The Fertitta Family College of Medicine model of direct primary care intends to serve medically underserved communities. Protected time for team huddles and administrative time for care coordination is a part of this model.

This position will also contribute to the educational mission of University of Houston College of Medicine through precepting medical students in their longitudinal primary care course.

Specific duties include the following:

Primary Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care

  • Evaluate and treat adult and pediatric patients at the UH Health | Direct Primary Care (DPC) site.
  • Provide input for the clinical protocols and guidelines of the DPC practice.
  • Participate in community outreach activities.

Educational Mission

  • Precept medical students at a UH Health | Direct Primary Care practice as part of the Longitudinal Primary Care course for Fertitta Family College of Medicine.

Salary and rank commensurate with academic achievements and experience



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Medical licensure in the State of Texas
  • Board certification in Family Medicine
  • Experience documenting with an electronic medical record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish
  • At least 3-5 years clinical experience
  • Experience with inter-professional teams
  • Experience contributing to quality improvement projects
